As a versatile do-it-all bike, you’d be hard pressed to go past a cyclocross bike like the CAADX. A stalwart in the Cannondale range, the CAADX combines a high quality alloy frame with stable cyclocross race geometry to create a bike that is both fast and fun to ride on a range of different surfaces. It’s ideal for cyclocross racing, but the CAADX offers so much more than that. Run skinny tyres and use it for racking up training miles on the road. Or fit wider and knobblier tyres and use it on forestry singletrack trails. Or make use of the additional brackets and fit on mudguards and use it as a tough city-slicking commuter bike. Of course a dedicated road bike like the CAAD12 or the Synapse is a better choice if you prefer the idea of sticking to the bitumen. But if you like the idea of getting into the cyclocross scene and you want a bike that can truly do-it-all, then the CAADX presents a very compelling argument.

The CAADX sits in the Cannondale range as the alloy version of the SuperX. It isn’t quite as light as the carbon SuperX, but it offers much of the same performance and versatility at a fraction of the cost. New for 2017 is a redesigned frame that is lighter and smoother than its predecessor. Cannondale has used extensive forming on the alloy tubes to encourage flex where it’s needed, while beefing up high-stress areas such as the BB30 bottom bracket and the tapered head tube. The CAADX offers a very clean and smooth look thanks to integrated bearings and internal cable routing, while the flat mount rear brake tucks the brake calliper neatly inside the rear triangle. The dedicated disc brake frame also allows for thinner seat stays that can absorb more vibration from the ground, and there’s also more clearance for wider tyres should you want to go bigger.

The CAADX is available in several build options, with both SRAM and Shimano groupsets on offer. All models feature the same lightweight alloy frame and powerful disc brakes for all-weather stopping.
