For those unfamiliar with the name, the SuperX stands as one of the most decorated and most highly regarded cyclocross bikes on the international race circuit. With a deep racing heritage behind it, the SuperX features a lightweight carbon frame purpose-built geometry that makes it a deadly weapon on the racetrack. After a more relaxed bike for taking on long-distance rides on mixed surfaces? Then you may want to check out the Cannondale Slate, which features wider tyres, an upright riding position and a short-travel suspension fork that makes it a versatile choice for all-road riding. But if your focus is on cyclocross racing and you want the best tool for the job, then it doesn’t get much faster or lighter than the SuperX from Cannondale.
Completely redesigned for 2017, the new SuperX frameset has been built to set a new standard amongst cyclocross race bikes. Cannondale began with a new carbon fibre frame that weighs less than one kilo, while the disc-specific fork weighs just 390 grams. The new SuperX moves to 12mm thru-axles to help stiffen up the junction with the front and rear wheels, while tyre clearance has been increased to accommodate up to 40c wide rubber. Geometry has changed on the new bike too, with the goal of increasing stability on technical CX racecourses. Cannondale has employed a slacker head tube angle for the SuperX, along with a longer top tube length that increases the bikes front centre. However, they’ve also increased the fork rake, which keeps the steering sharp and responsive. Also helping here is a shortened chainstay length that tucks the rear wheel in closer under the rider, which helps with carving tight corners. All together, the new changes make the SuperX the fastest, lightest and most nimble cyclocross bike to have ever worn the Cannondale badge.
All SuperX models feature the same lightweight carbon frame, thru-axle wheels and hydraulic disc brakes. You can choose from a Shimano 105-equipped model, or a SRAM Force CX1 model that uses a simple 1x11 drivetrain.
