Long weekend rides in the hills, rolling up to the start line of a Gran Fondo race, mid-weektraining rides with your mates –does that sound like your kind of bag? If you measure your rides in smiles and miles rather than pain and watts, then the Focus Cayo may be the road bike you’ve been searching for. In a nutshell, the Cayo is Focus’ endurance road race bike. Compared to the Izalco Max, the Cayo features a more relaxed riding position and a longer wheelbase that helps to provide more stability and comfort for longer rides. It’s still lightweight and made from high-tech carbon fibre, and it’ll still respond with every pedal stroke you lay into it. But whereas the Izalco Max features a more aggressive riding position and sharp race-oriented geometry, the Cayo offers a smoother and more comfortable ride quality to help reduce fatigue on longer rides.

Like the Izalco Max, the Focus Cayo is built with a high-tech carbon fibre frameset that offers lighter weight and improved bump compliance than comparable aluminium frames. The carbon frame and fork have been tuned to help absorb vibrations coming through the front and rear wheels, with thin seat stays that act as micro-suspension. Despite the smooth ride quality, Focus has ensured that the Cayo remains stiff and strong by drawing on a PF30 bottom bracket and an oversized head tube junction. When combined with the large profile downtube, the Cayo’s chassis offers a similar level of responsiveness to the race-specific Izalco Max, albeit with a more comfortable ride.

The carbon fibre Cayo carbon frameset is available in both rim brake and disc brake variants. The disc brake models add in front and rear thru-axles to create a stiffer junction at each dropout, offering even more responsive handling, along with improved all-weather braking.
