Up until recently, Focus had a bit of a gap in their full suspension range between the lightweight 120mm travel Spine, and the big-hitting 160mm travel SAM. Seeking to bridge that gap with a versatile and capable trail machine, Focus unveiled the all-new JAM that features 140mm of suspension travel front and rear, along with a new F.O.L.D suspension linkage. With a slack head tube angle, a short stem, wide handlebars and agile 27.5in wheels, the Focus JAM draws on the stability and confidence of the SAM enduro bike, but packs it into a lighter and faster package that is more adept at climbing and churning away the km’s during a weekend backcountry epic. If you love racing XC, then you’ll be best off looking at the O1E or the Raven hardtail. But if you love riding technical terrain both up and down, and you want a fun and agile trail bike to do it with, then the Focus JAM offers the suspension travel and geometry you need.

As with the Spine and the SAM, the JAM is available in both carbon and alloy versions. Each frame shares the same F.O.L.D suspension design, which features a stiff one-piece rear triangle that rotates on an oversized main pivot. A compact dual-link system connects the swingarm to the rear shock, controlling the 140mm of travel to keep it feeling smooth and supple all the way through the stroke. The rear dropout is bolted down with a 148x12mm thru-axle, which combined with the JAM’s beefy frame tubing and oversized head tube, creates a very stiff and strong chassis. Focus spec decent sized tyres on the JAM, so there’s heaps of traction on tap for getting the most out of the capable frame and suspension. And thanks to its short chainstays and 27.5in diameter wheels, the JAM offers plenty of agility, making it a fun and involving ride on the trail.

The JAM Elite is the entry-point into the JAM range, but it’s still equipped with a dropper seat post, a Shimano SLX drivetrain and adjustable RockShox suspension. Going further up the range, the carbon JAM models offer lighter weight and higher-end components for even more performance.
