When it comes to riding cross-country at speed, it’s pretty hard to go past a short-travel 29er mountain bike. With their larger diameter wheels and full suspension design, bikes such as the Giant Anthem X 29 are highly efficient and unparalleled in their ability to maintain momentum when the surface gets rough. Need any evidence? Have a look at any World Cup XC round to see just how many athletes choose 29er wheels to race on. Whereas the new Anthem 27.5 has bumped up its travel front & rear, the Anthem X 29 retains its 100mm of travel front and rear with geometry and a riding position that better suits marathon racing and long distance XC riding. If you have aspirations to compete in local mountain bike club dirt criterium series, or in bigger events like a 100km marathon or a 6-hour mountain bike race, then you’ll appreciate the faster-rolling nature of the Anthem X 29 over its smaller-wheeled sibling.

Like Giant’s longer travel bikes such as the Trance and Reign, the Anthem X 29 uses the proven Maestro suspension design to maximise pedal efficiency. You can still lock out the suspension via a small lever on the shock unit itself, which is useful for smoother dirt road sections and riding on the road. The Anthem X 29 is available in an alloy model with Fox suspension and Shimano SLX shifting, or you can get it in a carbon Advanced version with RockShox suspension and a 1x11 drivetrain from SRAM. Both models feature hydraulic disc brakes, Giant-branded components and Giant wheels too.
