The Giant Dirt E+ is your XC mountain bike with a difference. That difference, of course, is the addition of a Giant SyncDrive Pro motor which changes things considerably. You now have a well-built XC bike that is designed for speed over undulating, technical terrain with a little helper out back. Don’t be fooled by the somewhat clumsy looks. The Dirt E+ geometry and fit will encourage you to ride fast. With what could only be described as a crazy steep head angle at 73 degrees coupled with a long wheel base and chain stays, the Dirt E+ is designed to provide sharp steering and stability over rocks, ruts and bumps. The only real drawback of this geometry is that it isn’t well suited to jumps and very quick changes in direction. But at the end of the day, we don’t think that’s what this bike is about.
Giant have done a great job of seamlessly integrating the battery and motor into the frame of the Dirt E+. The ALUXX SL-grade aluminium frame provides a quality XC experience on an ebike package. This is an important point. The very nature of ebikes means that you can’t just take the same design and geometry normally used and incorporate a motor and battery. Rather, Giant have designed the Dirt E+ frame to provide a particular riding quality and modified the design through iterative testing to arrive at what they believe is the best riding experience.
Giant offer a choice between two Dirt E+ models. The Dirt E+ 2 Pro kicks off the line up with a Deore level spec, Suntour fork with QR15 front axle, and a dropper post. We love the fact that Giant are including dropper posts on many of their bikes as standard. This will save many people a pretty penny down the track. The second option is the Dirt E+ Pro. A feature of the E+ 2 Pro that may deter some riders is the 1x10 drive train. The range of gears is there, but the large jumps in ratio might be challenging for some. The E+ 1 Pro incorporates some nice upgrades, including a Rockshox fork, SLX and XT 1x11 drive train providing one extra gear over the E+2 model.
