A new model for 2017, the Hail bolsters the Liv mountain bike range with its longest travel full suspension bike yet. Modelled on the Giant Reign, the Hail is equipped with 160mm of suspension front and rear, burly components and slack geometry that makes this one of the most technically capable women’s bikes on the market. Whereas the Pique is Liv’s lightweight full suspension XC bike, the Hail is designed for riding steeper and more technical trails, where the extra suspension travel and stickier tyres offer more dependability when the trail surface gets rough. While it loves riding fast and rough trails, it’s not quite a full-blown downhill bike though. Thanks to its efficient Maestro suspension design and air-adjustable shocks, the Hail can still be pedalled uphill so you can get to the best trails.
Based upon the same suspension design and geometry as the alloy Hail, the Hail Advanced swaps in a carbon mainframe that is made in Giant’s Taiwanese factory using T-700 carbon fibre. This helps to lower weight while increasing strength. It also gives the Hail Advanced a beautiful organic-shaped frame, which maximises strength at key junction points such as the OverDrive head tube and the press-fit bottom bracket. The lower frame weight and stiffer chassis of the Hail Advanced will be of particular interest to those riders who are engaging in competitive enduro racing. These ride characteristics offer a snappy feel under pedalling inputs, and handling that is more direct thanks to the stiff wheels and thru-axle hubs. Add in highly adjustable suspension from Fox and RockShox, and you’ve got a race-ready chassis that can be dialled in for whatever trail you’re faced with.
The Hail Advanced comes in two versions, with both bikes using a carbon frame, 1x drivetrains, 2.35” wide tubeless tyres, and height-adjustable seatposts. The Hail Advanced 0 does upgrade to lighter carbon wheels and the slick SRAM 1x12 Eagle drivetrain for those who want nothing but the best.
