For too long, adventurous female riders have had to put up with riding men’s bikes if they wanted to ride something with more than 120mm of travel. That is, until now. Brand new for 2017, the Liv Hail has been introduced as a women’s specific version of the Giant Reign, and it features 160mm of suspension travel, a big RockShox Lyrik fork, and aggressive 2.35” tubeless tyres. While the Liv Pique is built as a lightweight and efficient cross-country race bike, the Hail uses slacker geometry, longer travel, and burlier components to offer a more stable and confidence-inspiring ride quality for taking on technical trails. That makes the Hail an ideal do-it-all mountain bike for female riders wanting a bike that they can grow into and develop their skills on. It also makes the Hail the ideal enduro race bike for budding female riders who are getting into competition.
Like the Giant Reign, the Liv Hail uses 27.5” diameter wheels to offer more strength and more nimble handling than larger 29” wheels. The smaller wheels also help Liv to be able to build the Hail in frame sizes down to an XS size, so that shorter female riders can also enjoy the technical capability of this fun and playful machine. The 160mm of suspension travel is controlled by the proven Maestro linkage, which has been around on Giant bikes since 2005. This design offers a smooth feel to the suspension along with the RockShox Deluxe rear shock, while also filtering out pedal bob, so the Hail doesn’t feel saggy like a hammock when you get up out of the saddle and stamp on the gas. Liv have matched the rear end with a beefy RockShox Lyrik fork up front, which is super smooth and easy to adjust thanks to its air-sprung design. With a simple shock pump, you can adjust the pressure in both the fork and shock to the right setting, regardless of whether you’re 40kg or 90kg. Other noteworthy spec choices on the Liv Hail include sharp shifting from the SRAM 1x11 drivetrain, smooth and predictable braking from the Guide RS hydraulic disc brakes, and reliability from the Giant branded PAM-2 wheelset.
