Cutting-edge materials and frame technology is all well and good, but not all of us can afford the latest and greatest. And when it boils down to it, a mountain bike with quality, adjustable suspension and balanced frame geometry can realistically offer much of the same on-trail performance, at a fraction of the cost. The Giant Stance is an excellent example of this, and it shows the effect of trickle-down technology from the high-end Anthem and Trance full suspension models. With 120mm of suspension travel, the Stance is designed as a comfortable and versatile cross-country full suspension bike that is ideal for riders entering the sport, or for those existing riders who are looking at upgrading from their current hardtail mountain bike.

In an attempt to keep the price attainable, Giant only offers the Stance with an alloy frame. The Aluxx material is the same as what you’ll find on the alloy Anthem frames though, with sleek hydroformed tube profiles that increase strength where it’s required, while tapering to thinner walls where it isn’t. To keep costs down, Giant has made a few changes over the Anthem that has also reduced overall complexity. Instead of internal routing, the Stance runs all of its gear and brake lines externally. For the rear suspension design, the Stance runs a single pivot arrangement, with a tidy rocker link that drives the RockShox rear shock. With less pivots, the Stance frame is simpler and decreases maintenance requirements in the long run. Both the fork and shock are air-adjustable though, so you can add or release air pressure to get the suspension feeling smooth for your riding weight. And despite the cheaper price point, the Stance still retains a chunky tapered head tube and a press-fit bottom bracket to help increase stiffness via that huge downtube. It also features a slick 10-speed drivetrain, along with hydraulic disc brakes and grippy Maxxis tyres that help to maintain traction in a wide variety of conditions. All up, the Stance delivers confidence and comfort in a full suspension design that will help your riding skills progress well into the future.
