Last year, the TCR range saw the biggest overhaul in its 20-year history. Giant’s plan for its most popular road bike model was to reduce frame weights across the board, whilst also refining the chassis to deliver greater power transfer with improved vertical compliance. Although the TCR has spent most of its shelf life as Giant’s only race bike, it is now one of three distinct models in the road line up. Because of this model splitting, the TCR has been able to evolve into a more refined all-round road bike, straddling the performance gap between the Propel aero race bike and the Defy endurance road bike. As such, Giant has built the TCR to be the lightest of the lot, and it successfully combines the comfort of the Defy, with the race-oriented geometry of the Propel. The short version of it is this: If you want superlight performance for climbing in the mountains, smashing KOM’s, and chasing the chequered flag on the criterium race track, the TCR is an ideal choice.

As the top-of-the-range model in the TCR line up, the TCR Advanced SL features a frame that is lighter, stronger and more refined than its cheaper siblings. In fact, this is the lightest road frame that Giant has ever produced, coming in at a claimed 856 grams. What makes this weight all the more impressive is the fact that it includes the integrated seat mast, which you simply cut to your desired saddle height for a super clean look. Combined with the 302gm fork, the TCR Advanced SL certainly leaves you with few excuses when hammering away on a steep mountain ascent.

Also new is the addition of the TCR Advanced SL Disc model, which draws on a SRAM Red hydraulic disc brake setup and wireless eTap electronic shifting. The Disc frame uses 12mm thru-axles to lock both the front and rear wheels down, adding stability and security over quick release wheels. If you prefer rim brakes, there are two other TCR Advanced SL models to choose from.
