As mountain bikes continue to evolve, most of them are becoming lighter, more efficient and more versatile than ever before. Models such as the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR and the Enduro are good examples of this progression, and the scope of riding that each model is now capable of compared to their predecessors is simply staggering. On the other hand however, you've got downhill weapons like the Demo. Rather than evolving into a more versatile bike, the Demo has simply evolved into an even more finely honed downhill race bike, capable of maintaining incredible speed on the roughest and steepest of racecourses. Piloted by the likes of Troy Brosnan and Loic Bruni to victory on the World Cup circuit, the latest Demo is an incredible piece of engineering that is built purely to go down the mountain as fast as possible. Want something that you can pedal around on as well? Then check out the Enduro. But for saddling up at a local downhill race complete with your full-face helmet and screaming down the trail as quickly as possible, then there ain't anything quite like being on a Demo.
Equipped with 200mm of travel front and rear, the Demo is the longest travel option in the Specialized lineup. Its frame and suspension platform has been updated over the previous design, with all pivots being located further down to help lower the bikes overall centre of gravity. The main pivot rotates around the bottom bracket shell, which helps to increase stiffness thanks to the massively oversized bearings, while a fat 1.5” diameter head tube provides a super strong junction for the dual-crown forks. Also unique to the demo is the single-sided seat tower, which offers a distinct aesthetic while also allowing for easier access to the rear shocks adjusters. The latest Demo is built around 27.5” diameter wheels, and geometry has been raked out with a 63.5-degree head angle that pushes the front wheel right out in front of you for masses of stability when the going gets fast and rough.
