Originally co-developed alongside McLaren, the Specialized Venge has evolved over the past six years to become one of the fastest aero road bikes in the world. The latest Venge (called the ViAS) is the result of extensive wind tunnel testing to reduce drag and increase the Venge’s ability to slice through the air. As many other brands have also demonstrated, aerodynamic performance is one of the most important facets for modern road bikes, even more so than weight. In fact, Specialized believe that aerodynamics are so important for high performance road racing bikes that they actually built their very own wind tunnel. With the ability to test and experiment with their own designs, Specialized is confident that its latest Venge ViAS is the fastest road bike they have ever produced.
The Venge sits in Specialized’s line up as a dedicated aero race bike. Whereas the Tarmac is the lightweight all-round road bike, and the Roubaix is the comfortable endurance road bike, the Venge is built purely for speed and racing efficiency. It features similar geometry to the Tarmac, but boasts large profile tube shapes to help reduce drag at racing speeds. Less drag means you can go faster – simple. Further performance comes from the tidy integrated brake callipers that are tucked out of the wind, and an integrated aero seatpost that offers full adjustability in both offset and height. To maximise frame stiffness, Specialized have built the Venge ViAS from high-tech FACT 11r carbon fibre, which is specific for each frame to deliver the same level of stiffness regardless of your height. Other features of the ViAS design include the distinctive negative drop stem and Aerofly ViAS handlebars, which allow you to maintain a low riding position over the front wheel.
