In a relatively short space of time, the Domane has quickly risen to become Trek’s most popular road bike platform. It’s now more popular than the superlight Emonda road bike, and more popular than the Madone aero race bike. So why’s that? Well with its unique IsoSpeed Decoupler and ‘Endurance Race’ geometry, the Domane has been able to deliver that magic blend of comfort and efficiency in a package that suits a wider variety of riders. If you value all-day riding comfort and stability, there really is no better choice. The best part about the Domane? The longer the ride, the better it gets.
Following hot on the release of the Domane SLR, the new Domane SL enters the fray with many of the same refinements but with a more accessible OCLV 500 carbon fibre construction. The venerable IsoSpeed decoupler remains on the rear, though Trek have now integrated the same technology into the head tube to help filter out vibrations from the fork and front wheel. With IsoSpeed front and rear, these two pivots work in tandem to isolate the saddle and the handlebar from the rest of the frame, dramatically increasing compliance and comfort. Combined with the slightly taller head tube and longer wheelbase, the Domane SL offers a supremely comfortable riding position for all day riding and descending.
Make no mistake though, the Domane SL is still a high performance road machine. Like the Emonda, the Domane utilises a tapered E2 head tube, a BB90 bottom bracket, and a hugely oversized downtube that provides masses of chassis stiffness for hard sprinting when the time comes. You’ll find plenty of routing options for both mechanical and electronic groupsets, and the Domane SL also features DuoTrap compatibility, so you can fit an integrated speed & cadence sensor without need for messy cable ties.
The Domane SL is available with your choice of a mechanical Ultegra groupset (Domane SL 6), or an Ultegra Di2 groupset (Domane SL 7)
