After a brief intermission, the Top Fuel is back, and it’s faster than ever. As Trek’s flagship full suspension XC race bike, the Top Fuel is designed to offer more comfort, more traction and more stability than a hardtail, making it the ideal choice for rough and technical terrain. As with the previous model, the new Top Fuel packs in 100mm of travel front and rear. And like the Fuel EX, the Top Fuel features a Full Floater shock mount and the Active Braking Pivot (ABP) design, which enables class leading traction whether you’re scrambling up a steep and loose climb, or sending it downhill. Geometry has been updated to deliver more stability and confidence for high-speed riding, and with the addition of the MinoLink, riders can now adjust between ‘slack’ and ‘steep’ settings, depending on the terrain. The Top Fuel’s responsive handling has been enhanced with a shorter chainstay length, which has been enabled by the stiffer BOOST148 thru-axle system. Also paramount to its quick steering, the longer G2 fork offset helps to reduce the sluggish handling that many other 29ers suffer from. Combined with its pedal-stomping efficiency, the Top Fuel is built for speed whether you’re on the racetrack or on an epic backcountry XC ride.

Available in both alloy and carbon versions, there is a Top Fuel for nearly every budget. The range starts at the Top Fuel 8 with its Fox suspension and Shimano 2x11 drivetrain, and finishes at the SRAM XX1 Eagle equipped Top Fuel 9.9. Take it one step further and build up a completely customised Project One Top Fuel, where you can choose everything from the paint job, tyre selection, wheelset and suspension. Regardless of which one you go for though, each Top Fuel comes with the same suspension design and frame geometry. As with the Procaliber, the Top Fuel uses Trek’s Smart Wheelsize system, which employs 29” wheels for the Medium frame size and above, and 27.5” wheels on the Small frame size. This helps to preserve handling and cockpit setup, while ensuring riders are on the biggest wheels possible for faster rolling.
