Gravel & Cyclocross bikes have become a major cycling category as more riders seek the path less travelled. This variation on a road bike enables you to go places you never thought possible which is why it has become so popular. As more and more riders move away from traditional style racing more people are finding themselves drawn to the cycling fringe this cycling genre will continue to flourish. But while Gravel bikes and CX bikes can in some instances be interchangeable they do have unique characters that set them apart.
Gravel bikes can be characterised by their strong frame design that in most cases will have a relaxed geometry, strong wheels and a wide range of mounting points for all manner of bike-packing accessories. These are the work-horse of the bike industry and are made stand up to the toughest of treatment even when loaded with bags, panniers, etc. Bike-packing would have to be some of the best fun you can have on a bike and we would highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking they might give it a try.
Cyclocross bikes, most commonly called CX bikes are a slight variation on a road bike. Only slight in that they too are build to be light and fast, but with some small adjustments to make them ride better in the wet and muddy conditions normally found at any CX race. For the most part the changes revolve around tyre clearance. Not only can you fit wider, nobly tyres in CX bikes, the frames are designed to shed mud as efficiently as possible to keep you on your bike riding.
